Fire Up Your Pits, Brissy! Council Has Overturned the Backyard Ban

Score one for the little guy! In a David vs. Goliath battle a Kedron resident’s pleas to the Brisbane City Council to be able to use his backyard fire put have been heard and in good news for everyone common sense has prevailed.

Yesterday, The Big Breakfast spoke with Darren Mitchell who had launched a petition that received over a thousand signatures, requesting the BCC overturn a ban on using backyard fire pits for recreational purposes, which in our view was a pretty reasonable request.

Well, we can happily report this morning that Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has ruled that we can now sit around the flames in your yards this winter on a trial basis, which can essentially be read as, don’t stuff this up for everyone!

Speaking this morning on The Big Breakfast Mitchell told Marto, Margaux and Nick Cody that the trial is a victory but he will still need more signatures to make this a permanent fixture
