A new Youth Theatre program will begin at BREC next year, with director and producer Kathryn Osborne as artistic director.

Kathryn brings a wealth of experience to the role, including artistic direction of Mandurah’s Riptide Youth Performance Company, co-founding Perth theatre company The Last Great Hunt, and winning the 2016 WA Young Achiever Award for the Arts.

She has also worked in London at the Old Vic Theatre.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the passionate young creatives of Bunbury”, says Kathryn.

“In 2018 we will pilot a program that will include opportunities for 15-25 year olds to develop skills in making their own original new performances, as well as performing in them and working behind the scenes.”

“These new opportunities are designed to welcome local young people who are starting out on the journey to becoming performers and performance makers”.

BREC’s Executive Director Sharon Custers says “We feel that Bunbury can benefit from the success that Katt Osborne has had in Mandurah and empower our young people to let their voice be heard. It’s time to shake things up a bit!"

The program is aimed at the 15-25 age group, and showcases BREC’s commitment to supporting young people.

A free 'Open Day’ Workshop will be the first official session, where participants will meet Kathryn and experience what the program will offer.

The first semester of the program will be Jan-Jun 2018, which includes a range of master class workshops with professional Perth artists. An original production will be staged in Semester Two.

More information will be available at the Open Day, Sunday December 3 from 10.30am at BREC.

Registration is free and can be completed online at bunburyentertainment.com
